FPGA digest — October 9, 2026
GlobalFoundries announced a $2 billion agreement with TSMC; two new arXiv papers cover FPGA cloud security and Intel E830 timing measurements.

Period: October 8–9, 2026. Research dates refer to the first submission to arXiv.
GlobalFoundries–TSMC: $2 billion for silicon interposers
On October 8, GlobalFoundries announced an agreement with TSMC to manufacture silicon interposers for CoWoS packaging in Malta, New York. The initial term is five years; volume-production ramp-up is expected in the first half of 2028.
Interposers connect multiple dies within a package. The agreement provides for additional packaging capacity for AI and HPC; FPGA-chiplet production was not announced, and the ramp-up date remains a company forecast.
SAEID: secure FPGA cloud deployment
An October 8 preprint presents SAEID, a framework for authorization, device authentication and bitstream protection across FPGA vendors.
The authors validated full software decryption on the ZC702 Cortex-A9: 191.126 ms. The RTL study covers one ECC operation, rather than a complete hardware accelerator. This is a research result; this digest did not independently audit its security or reproduce the measurements.
Intel E830: transmission timing measured with FPGA
An October 8 paper uses an FPGA platform to measure Intel E830 network-adapter timing. The measurements use the author’s driver fixes.
At a target frame interval of about 100 µs, approximately 99% of observed intervals were within ±300 ns, with rare deviations near 2 µs. These are frame-interval statistics, not an absolute transmission-time guarantee. The work remains a preprint; the EFCC measurement-platform code is linked below.
Coverage limits
Accessible official press pages were checked for AMD/Xilinx, Altera, Lattice, Microchip, Achronix, Efinix, NanoXplore, QuickLogic and Menta. No new FPGA silicon, IP or tool announcement qualified for this digest in that selection for October 8–9. The Flex Logix news feed could not be checked.
The October 8 Lattice MachXO5-NX TDQ award is not a main story: the announcement recognizes an existing product. The arXiv search and reviewed press pages are not an exhaustive survey of all publications. Checked on October 9, 2026.
